SUMMARY:Saraha: A Poetic Awakening
DESCRIPTION:Saraha\, a great practitioner of Tantric Buddhism\, is one of the most emblematic figures of late first-millennium India\, a time of flourishing religious and literary activity. \nHe lived a nontraditional Buddhist life and taught in an equally unconventional way\, through spontaneous songs. Sometimes esoteric\, sometimes playful\, the adamantine songs express Saraha’s view on the nature of mind\, on the importance of the lama\, on society\, and on other themes. \nOver these two days\, Lara Braitstein introduces us to the life and poetry of Saraha. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Lara Braitstein is the author of The Adamantine Songs: Study\, Translation\, and Critical Tibetan Edition (Rabsel Editions\, 2018)\, a study of the Mahamudra songs composed by Saraha in the 9th century. She is a professor at McGill University (Montreal\, Canada)\, where she teaches Indian and Tibetan Buddhism. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Information\n• This teaching is given in English and translated into French. SUMMARY:Victorious Meditation: Essential Instructions from The Samadhi Raja Sutra
DESCRIPTION:Meditation is often spoken of as a single\, uniform practice\, whereas in reality there are countless meditative techniques aimed at different goals. In Buddhism\, meditation is a tool for progressing toward a freedom that goes beyond simple relaxation. \nHowever\, for real progress to occur\, these methods must be combined with a deep understanding of how our mind functions and how we perceive the world. Phakchok Rinpoche explains how to acquire this right view. \nThe aim is to practice a form of meditation that has a genuine impact on our lives\, allowing us to evolve beyond all our dissatisfactions. To support his teaching\, Phakchok Rinpoche draws on the Samadhi Raja Sutra\, one of the major teachings of the Mahayana Buddhist tradition\, which shows how the combination of key factors such as bodhicitta and the practice of the paramitas is necessary for this process to be deeply transformative. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Phakchok Rinpoche belongs to the new generation of Tibetan Buddhist masters. Born in 1981\, he is recognized as the seventh Phakchok Rinpoche\, the incarnation of an eminent teacher and meditation master. He received ordination from His Holiness the Dalai Lama and underwent extensive training in Buddhist philosophy and meditation\, studying with some of the most accomplished masters of modern times. \nHis main teachers were his grandfather\, Kyapje Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche\, and Nyoshul Khen Rinpoche. He completed his education at the Dzongsar Institute of Advanced Buddhist Studies in Bir\, India\, where he received the title of Khenpo. He travels worldwide\, teaching in Buddhist centers\, universities\, and monasteries\, from Asia to the United States\, from South Africa to Europe. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Information\n• Course begins: Saturday\, August 29 at 10 am• Translation: this teaching is given in Tibetan and translated into French. If you wish to follow this course in another language (English\, German or Spanish)\, please fill out this form before Friday\, August 14. \n \n \n \n \n \n Contribution: 28 €/day
