SUMMARY:Buddhist Treasures of Knowledge
DESCRIPTION:The Stages of Meditation–Session 2\n \n \n \n \n \n On the request of the Tibetan King Mutig Tsenpo\, son of King Trisong Detsen\, the great 8th-century Indian pandita Kamalashila composed The Stages of Meditation (Bhavanakrama). The first of the three parts describes the steps of familiarization with mental calm\, then higher vision\, and lastly the paths and the grounds in detail. All later writings on meditation composed by Tibetan masters are based on this text. Khenpo Chödrak Tenphel Rinpoche will begin to explain this text in detail this year\, allowing each of us to deepen our learning of Buddhist meditation. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Khenpo Chödrak Tenphel Rinpoche. Born in 1950 in the Kham province of Western Tibet\, he began his studies at Rumtek Monastery in Sikkim\, India at the age of nine. Following the traditional twelve-year cycle of philosophical studies\, the karmapa conferred the title of Khenpo (scholar) upon him. After this\, Khenpo Chödrak studied the Buddhist tantras for six years and then became director of the Nalanda Institute for Higher Buddhist Studies and KIBI (Karmapa International Buddhist Institute) in Delhi. He is currently one of the principal teachers of Thaye Dorje\, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Course Organisation\n\nTuesday\, July 8–Friday\, July 11\nSunday\, July 13–Friday\, July 1\nSunday\, July 20–Thursday\, July 24\n\n(Saturday\, July 12 and Saturday\, July 19 are days off.) \nIt is possible to attend a single week of the course. \nComplementary Activities to the Morning Teaching: \n\nA Study Session;\nTibetan Classes of Varying Levels (for at least three people);\nReading of the Heart Sutra.\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Important\n\nThis course begins Tuesday\, July 8th at 10:00 am.\nThough open to all\, this teaching requires some familiarization with Buddhist philosophical ideas.\nTranslations: This teaching is given in Tibetan and translated into English and French. SUMMARY:Detailed Differentiation between the Three Disciplines Part 2
DESCRIPTION:In this work\, Sakya Pandita Künga Gyaltsen (1182–1251)\, one of the founding fathers of the Sakya lineage and an eminent teacher respected by all of the traditions of Tibetan Buddhism presents the three disciplines (dom sum) that support Buddhist practice: the disciplines of individual liberation\, of a bodhisattva\, and of the vajrayana. This text explains the precepts of each as well as the apparent contradictions between their different levels. Knowledge of the diverse disciplines associated with Buddhist practice is a prerequisite for any person who seriously undertakes the Buddhist path.  \nLama Jampa\, with his rich heritage from both the Sakya and Kagyü lineages\, will explain this text and clarify the divergent views concerning certain points. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Lama Jampa Thaye is a scholar and meditation master in the Sakya and Karma Kagyü traditions.
