SUMMARY:The Sutra of Aspirations for Excellent Conduct Session 3
DESCRIPTION:Thaye Dorje\, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa explains the importance of the Five Royal Sutras that make up the paths of practice. Among them\, the Sutra of Aspirations for Excellent Conduct\, also known as Samantabadhra’s Wishing Prayer\, represents the path of aspiration. The bodhisattva Samantabhadra’s wishing prayers are a model for all to follow. They are recited regularly by practitioners of all traditions and are a path that\, as Karmapa says\, “is a way of consciously dreaming.” \nAfter having clarified the meaning of the Heart Sutra\, which presents the path of view\, Trinlay Rinpoche will begin the detailed explanation of the second of the Five Royal Sutras. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Trinlay Rinpoche\, born in 1975\, was recognized as a tülku—manifestation of a Buddhist master—by the 16th Karmapa (1923–1981 C.E.). He brings together a Western academic education and in-depth Buddhist training under the guidance of eminent masters like the 14th Shamarpa. SUMMARY:Gampopa Sönam Rinchen\, Dhagpo Lhaje\, Monk and Yogi
DESCRIPTION:Gampopa is a central figure in Tibetan Buddhism. He is the father of the Dhagpo Kagyu lineage and the teacher of Düsum Khyenpa\, the first Karmapa. Gampopa is particularly known for his teaching that combines the Kadam and Mahamudra traditions\, giving the lineage its unique character. \nWith his dual background as a practitioner and scholar\, His Eminence Trungram Gyatrül Rinpoche offers an overview of Gampopa and the distinctive nature of his teachings. \nIn this year celebrating fifty years of Dhagpo’s development and the Karmapa’s activity in the West\, Gyatrül Rinpoche\, at the invitation of Lama Jigme Rinpoche\, honors us by sharing the fruit of his knowledge rooted in practice. It is a new opportunity to discover our lineage\, draw inspiration from what has been accomplished\, and pay tribute to the masters who made it possible. \nHis Eminence Trungram Gyatrül Rinpoche will confer the Milarepa empowerment. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n His Eminence Trungram Gyatrül Rinpoche is the fourth Trungram Gyalwa Tulku of the Karma Kagyu lineage. He was recognized by Rangjung Rigpe Dorje\, the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa. \nHe began long studies at Rumtek at a young age and received empowerments and teachings from all the traditions of Tibetan Buddhism. His training in meditative practice was guided by the accomplished practitioner Khenchen Trinley Paljor Rinpoche\, with whom he spent nearly his entire life until the latter’s passing. He then acquired advanced university training in Taiwan and the United States\, where he received his doctorate in 2004 at Harvard with a thesis on Gampopa. He is fluent in Tibetan\, English\, Nepalese\, Sherpa and Chinese and possesses solid knowledge of Sanskrit\, Hindi and French. \nHis activity unfolds throughout the world through teachings\, the creation of centers for Buddhist study\, humanitarian associations (Nepal\, 2015)\, a nonreligious center for peace in Lumbini\, educational initiatives and more. Through these various activities\, Gyatrul Rinpoche promotes wisdom and compassion with a nonsectarian mindset\, allying the preservation and modernisation of traditions for a 21st century Buddhism. \nRead his full biography. \n  \n  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Informations\n\nCourse Begins: Saturday\, August 9 at 10:30 am\nHis Eminence Trungram Gyatrül Rinpoche will confer the Milarepa empowerment.\nTranslations: This teaching is given in English and translated into French. SUMMARY:Detailed Differentiation between the Three Disciplines Part 2
DESCRIPTION:In this work\, Sakya Pandita Künga Gyaltsen (1182–1251)\, one of the founding fathers of the Sakya lineage and an eminent teacher respected by all of the traditions of Tibetan Buddhism presents the three disciplines (dom sum) that support Buddhist practice: the disciplines of individual liberation\, of a bodhisattva\, and of the vajrayana. This text explains the precepts of each as well as the apparent contradictions between their different levels. Knowledge of the diverse disciplines associated with Buddhist practice is a prerequisite for any person who seriously undertakes the Buddhist path.  \nLama Jampa\, with his rich heritage from both the Sakya and Kagyü lineages\, will explain this text and clarify the divergent views concerning certain points. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Lama Jampa Thaye is a scholar and meditation master in the Sakya and Karma Kagyü traditions. A British citizen born in 1952\, he has received teachings and empowerments from a great number of masters\, in particular Karma Thinley Rinpoche\, whose regent he became in 1988. He has taught at Manchester University\, where he received a doctorate for his work on Tibetan religious history. Today\, he teaches at KIBI in Delhi (Karmapa International Buddhist Institute) and around the world. He is the author of numerous works. Lama Jampa Thaye is appreciated for his knowledge of traditional texts and his ability to give commentary that is accessible for people in the West. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Important\n• While open to all\, this teaching requires some familiarization with Buddhist philosophical ideas.• Translations: This teaching is given in English and translated into French. SUMMARY:The Sutra of Aspirations for Excellent Conduct
His dual culture\, his mastery of three languages (English\, French\, and Tibetan)\, and his ability to communicate the depth of Buddhist thought in an accessible way make him an exceptional teacher. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Important\n•  Translations: This teaching is given in English and translated into French. SUMMARY:Detailed Differentiation between the Three Disciplines
Knowledge of the diverse disciplines associated with Buddhist practice is a prerequisite for any person who seriously undertakes the Buddhist path.\nLama Jampa\, with his rich heritage from both the Sakya and Kagyü lineages\, will explain this text and clarify the divergent views concerning certain points.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Lama Jampa Thaye is a scholar and meditation master in the Sakya and Karma Kagyü traditions. Lama Jampa Thaye is appreciated for his knowledge of traditional texts and his ability to give commentary that is accessible for people in the West.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Important\n• While open to all\, this teaching requires some familiarization with Buddhist philosophical ideas.• Translations: This teaching is given in English and translated into French. SUMMARY:The Madhyamaka school of thought Initial approach
DESCRIPTION:Update 11/01/2024\n \n \n \n \n \n According to the school of thought of the middle way (madhyamaka)\, all phenomena are emptiness and without identity. This school of thought is thus named because its tenants consider that all phenomena neither exist nor non-exist\, neither both at once\, or neither one nor the other. Khenpo Samdrup introduces this view of the great vehicle through the explanation of four points that sum up the Bouddha’s teaching\, often known as the four seals\, the second part of the Gateway to Knowledge from Mipham Rinpoché.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Khenpo Samdrup Rinpoché was born in 1975 in Tibet. He became a monk at the age of eleven\, studied Tibetan literature for seven years and accomplished retreats at the Dhongtsang monastery (Tibet). In 1993\, he received the entirety of teachings on the Path and the Fruit from Luding Khenpo. Then he joined the shedra (monastic university) of Dzongsar where he studied philosophy and the vajrayana. During this period\, he also received important teachings from His Holiness Sakya Trinzin. Finally\, in 2016\, Kyabjé Dzongsar Khyentsé Rinpoché named him as principal khenpo at Dzongsar shedra where he continues to be the abbot. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Information\n• Beginning of the teaching: Wednesday 21 at 10:00 a.m.• Translations: This teaching is given in Tibetan and translated into French. SUMMARY:The Heart Sutra: Understanding Emptiness - 5th session
DESCRIPTION:The Heart Sutra is thus named because it contains the heart of the Buddha’s teaching on emptiness. A very short text\, it is the most concise version of the explanation of prajnaparamita\, wisdom that leads to the other side\, enlightenment. The approach of emptiness corrects our misunderstanding regarding mind and phenomena. It shows us that neither of these have any independent existence\, but rather the whole of manifestation operates according to interdependence. Trinlay Rinpoche will explain the meaning of this particularly profound text as well as its context and progression. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Trinlay Rinpoche was recognized as a tülku—manifestation of a Buddhist master—by the 16th Karmapa (1923–1981 C.E.).
