Thaye Dorje, the 17th<\/sup> Gyalwa Karmapa<\/h2>\n

Born in 1983, the 17th<\/sup><\/span> Karmapa is the current holder of the Kagyu lineage, whose transmission he ensures. He is the receptacle of this teaching and all its spiritual influence. He divides his time between study, meditation and traveling all over the world to give teachings. These teachings cannot be confined to texts: they are alive, experienced by great accomplished masters who invite us to live them in our turn.<\/p>\n

Kunzik Shamar Rinpoche<\/h2>\n

The Shamarpa incarnations is the second line in the tradition of successive reincarnations that originated with the first Karmapa D\u00fcsum Khyenpa in twelfth century Tibet. This was instituted by the 3rd<\/sup><\/span> Karmapa Rangjung Dorje who presented his principal disciple Khaydrup Dragpa Senge with a ruby-red crown and conferred upon him the status Shamarpa that literally means \u2018Holder of the Red Crown\u2019.<\/p>\n

That ruby-red crown is a replica of the black crown worn by the Karmapas, and it symbolizes the inseparability of their spiritual connection as emanations of the same mind-stream as stated by the second Karmapa Karma Pakshi that \u201cFuture Karmapas will manifest in two forms\u201d. That statement was later clarified by the fourth Karmapa Rolpe\u2019i Dorje who designated that the Shamarpa reincarnates as a second manifestation of himself. [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_toggle title=”Click to read more” toggle_icon=”||fa||400″ open_toggle_icon=”||fa||900″ _builder_version=”4.24.3″ _module_preset=”default” title_font=”Roboto Slab||||||||” title_font_size=”13px” closed_title_font=”||||||||” background_color=”gcid-0e31f813-9b2e-4fdd-9a29-d8b4986da10d” width=”100%” module_alignment=”right” custom_padding=”8px||8px||false|false” hover_enabled=”0″ border_width_all=”0px” border_width_top=”0px” locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{%22gcid-0e31f813-9b2e-4fdd-9a29-d8b4986da10d%22:%91%22background_color%22%93}” sticky_enabled=”0″]In this light, Tibetan historical records refer to the Karmapa as \u2018Karmapa Shanagpa\u2019 which means \u2018Karmapa – Holder of the Black Crown\u2019 and the Shamarpa as \u2018Karmapa Shamarpa\u2019 which means \u2018Karmapa – Holder of the Red Crown\u2019. These designations are found in the historical records authored by several well-known Tibetan Buddhist masters, masters such as Golo Shonnu Pal (1392-1481), Pawo Tsuglag Trengwa (1504-1516), the fifth Dalai Lama, Ngawang Lozang Gyamtso (1617-1682) and the eighth Situpa Ch\u00f6kyi Jungnay (1700-1774). In recent times, Gyalwa Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje also emphasized the inseparability of the Karmapa Shamarnag legacy publicly on many occasions. <\/p>\n

The Shamarpas are revered in the annals of Tibetan Buddhism as an emanation of Buddha Amitabha, and are addressed honorifically as K\u00fcnzig Shamar Rinpoche. <\/p>\n

In keeping with this illustrious spiritual legacy and responsibilities, the 14th Shamarpa, Kunzig Shamar Rinpoche Mipham Chokyi Lodro(1952-2014) was recognized by the 16th<\/sup><\/span> Gyalwa Karmapa, and thereby enthroned as the principal lineage holder of the Kamtsang Kagyu order. <\/p>\n

He received from the 16th<\/sup><\/span> Gyalwa Karmapa, who was his root guru as well as his uncle, the entire cycle of Kagyu teachings, and remained by his side till the 16th<\/sup><\/span> Gyalwa Karmapa passed away in 1981. Thereafter, the 14th Shamarpa was the main lineage holder entrusted with upholding, preserving and flourishing the order of Kamtsang Kagyu. In this, one of his main responsibilities was to fulfill all the projects and aspirations of the late Gyalwa Karmapa, as well as undertake chief responsibility to recognize and enthrone the 17th<\/sup><\/span> Gyalwa Karmapa. Thus, he recognized the current 17th<\/sup><\/span> Gyalwa Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje and also guided and instructed his entire spiritual education that included the most profound and sacred transmissions of the Kagy\u00fc tradition. <\/p>\n

In this way, in the evolution of the Kamtsang order, the 14th<\/sup><\/span> Shamarpa fulfilled his traditional role in ensuing the continuity of the authentic Kamtsang Kagyu order in a very turbulent era. Lama Guendune Rinpoche<\/h2>\n

En 1975, M. et Mme Benson ont offert au XVIe Karmapa un terrain et un corps de ferme en Dordogne pour y \u00e9tablir un centre bouddhiste. En 1977, Karmapa a nomm\u00e9 ce lieu Dhagpo Kagyu Ling, le lieu de transmission de la lign\u00e9e de Gampopa, et en a fait son si\u00e8ge europ\u00e9en.<\/p>\n
