Under gusty skies at the turn of the new century, the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje, was greeted at Dhagpo Kagyu Ling on January 9<\/strong>\u2014 three days after arriving in Paris on his first visit to Europe.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Addressing some two thousand practitioners<\/strong> under a large marquee, the 16-year-old Gyalwa Karmapa recalled his predecessor\u2019s instructions for Buddhism to take root in the West, noting that they \u201chave been implemented with diligence. I am happy to see that a good base was established. For the Buddhist teachings to last, these ongoing activities must continue,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

During his teaching, His Holiness shared the essence of the Buddhist path.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhatever practice a person engages in on the Buddhist path, the key instruction is to generate compassion that knows no bounds, along with an infallible knowledge of the true nature of reality that lies beyond the dualistic grasping of the mind.\u201d<\/p>\n

He stated that, \u201cthe main aim of Dharma practice is to help all beings. To make this possible, we need to practice, study and reflect on all this and on the philosophical teachings.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMy wish<\/strong> is that you reach the ultimate goal by continually connecting with Lama Jigme Rinpoche’s instructions and advice.\u201d His visit concluded with the empowerment of Chenrezig, the meditation aspect embodying the compassion of all Buddhas.<\/p>\n

During the visit, Lama Jigme Rinpoche gave a teaching<\/strong> on the significance of the Gyalwa Karmapa.<\/p>\n

    C\u2019est sous un ciel venteux, \u00e0 l\u2019aube du nouveau si\u00e8cle, que le XVIIe<\/sup> Gyalwa Karmapa, Thinley Thay\u00e9 Dorj\u00e9, a \u00e9t\u00e9 accueilli \u00e0 Dhagpo Kagyu Ling le 9 janvier, trois jours apr\u00e8s son arriv\u00e9e \u00e0 Paris pour sa premi\u00e8re visite en Europe.

    S\u2019adressant \u00e0 quelque 2000 pratiquants sous un grand chapiteau, le Gyalwa Karmapa, \u00e2g\u00e9 alors de 16 ans, a rappel\u00e9 les instructions de son pr\u00e9d\u00e9cesseur pour que le bouddhisme prenne racine en Occident, notant qu\u2019elles \u00ab ont \u00e9t\u00e9 mises en \u0153uvre avec diligence \u00bb. \u00ab Je suis heureux, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9, de constater qu\u2019une bonne base a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9tablie. Pour que les enseignements bouddhistes perdurent, ces activit\u00e9s doivent se poursuivre.\u00bb

    Il a ajout\u00e9 : \u00ab Mon souhait est que vous atteigniez le but ultime en vous connectant continuellement aux instructions et aux conseils de Lama Jigm\u00e9 Rinpoch\u00e9. \u00bb

    Sa visite s\u2019est achev\u00e9e par l\u2019initiation de Chenrezik, l\u2019aspect de la m\u00e9ditation qui incarne la compassion de tous les bouddhas.
