During a day trip to Dordogne on January 21, 1975, the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa Rangjung Rigpe Dorje visited the stretch of land on the C\u00f4te de Jor that was to become Dhagpo Kagyu Ling.<\/p>\n

He was invited by Bernard Benson, a British industrialist who owned the Ch\u00e2teau de Chaban and surrounding land on the C\u00f4te de Jor.<\/p>\n

Marked by his encounter with the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa at his monastery in Rumtek (Sikkim), he offered to donate land to the different schools of Tibetan Buddhism to make Buddhist teachings and philosophy accessible, and to preserve Tibetan culture.<\/p>\n

The Gyalwa Karmapa had already seen aerial views of the lands and circled the desired area on a map, indicating to Mr. Benson that several of the buildings offered to him should remain within his own family.<\/p>\n

As Jigme Rinpoche recalls,<\/p>\n

He was first invited to the castle of Chaban, and from there, he visited the land. There, Mrs. Benson found a stone shell, a fossil, and offered it to the Karmapa. During this time, a rain of white flowers came and disappeared just two meters above the ground. So Karmapa said that this is very auspicious. I don’t want to exaggerate things, but it was some kind of special sign, you know.\u201d[\/et_pb_testimonial][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.27.3″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n

From 1975 on, many high-ranking lamas visited the small temple set up at Dhagpo, where Lama Jigme Rinpoche resided from the month of May.<\/p>\n

Prior to his stop in Dordogne, His Holiness the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa gave the Black Crown ceremony at the Kagyu Dzong Buddhist Centre for Study and Meditation (January 8 and 11), where he was introduced by Arnaud Desjardins and met with Pope Paul VI in Rome<\/a>. He came to the Dordogne from the property of close disciples, Etienne and Georgina De Swarte, in Cotonas, near the city of Saint-Etienne, which is the Karma Dhatu center today.<\/p>\n

The 16th Gyalwa Karmapa\u2019s first visit to Europe<\/strong> was organized by Samye Ling, Kalou Rinpoche, and Lama Ole Nydahl.<\/p>\n

Lors d\u2019une visite en Dordogne le 21 janvier 1975, le XVIe<\/sup> Gyalwa Karmapa Rangjung Rigp\u00e9 Dorj\u00e9 a visit\u00e9 le terrain de la C\u00f4te de Jor qui allait devenir Dhagpo Kagyu Ling.<\/p>

Marqu\u00e9 par sa rencontre avec le XVIe<\/sup> Gyalwa Karmapa dans son monast\u00e8re de Rumtek au Sikkim, il propose de faire don de terres aux diff\u00e9rentes \u00e9coles du bouddhisme tib\u00e9tain afin de rendre accessibles aux occidentaux les enseignements et la philosophie bouddhistes, et de pr\u00e9server la culture tib\u00e9taine.<\/p>

Le Gyalwa Karmapa avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 re\u00e7u des vues a\u00e9riennes des terres et lors de sa venue, il a entour\u00e9 sur une carte la zone souhait\u00e9e, indiquant \u00e0 M. Benson que plusieurs des b\u00e2timents qui lui \u00e9taient propos\u00e9s devaient rester la propri\u00e9t\u00e9 de sa propre famille.<\/p>

\u00ab Ce jour-l\u00e0, Karmapa a visit\u00e9 la C\u00f4te de Jor. Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u2019abord invit\u00e9 au ch\u00e2teau de Chaban, et de l\u00e0, il a visit\u00e9 le terrain. L\u00e0, Madame Benson a trouv\u00e9 un coquillage de pierre, un fossile, et l\u2019a offert \u00e0 Karmapa. Au m\u00eame moment, une pluie de fleurs blanches est apparue et a disparu \u00e0 deux m\u00e8tres du sol. Le Karmapa a alors d\u00e9clar\u00e9 que c\u2019\u00e9tait de tr\u00e8s bon augure. Je ne veux pas exag\u00e9rer, ajoute Rinpoch\u00e9, mais c\u2019\u00e9tait une sorte de signe sp\u00e9cial, vous savez. \u00bb<\/span><\/p>

\u00c0 partir de 1975, de nombreux lamas de haut rang visitent le petit temple install\u00e9 \u00e0 Dhagpo<\/strong>, o\u00f9 lama Jigm\u00e9 Rinpoch\u00e9 r\u00e9side depuis le mois de mai.<\/p>

Avant de s\u2019arr\u00eater en Dordogne, Sa Saintet\u00e9 le XVIe<\/sup> Gyalwa Karmapa avait donn\u00e9 la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie de la Coiffe Noire au centre bouddhiste d\u2019\u00e9tude et de m\u00e9ditation Kagy\u00fc Dzong, les 8 et 11 janvier. Il y avait \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 par Arnaud Desjardins. Puis il a rencontr\u00e9 le pape Paul VI \u00e0 Rome<\/a>. Il est venu en Dordogne depuis la propri\u00e9t\u00e9 de ses proches disciples, \u00c9tienne et Georgina De Swarte \u00e0 Cotonas. Cette propri\u00e9t\u00e9 est aujourd\u2019hui le centre Karma Dhatu, pr\u00e8s de la ville de Saint-\u00c9tienne.<\/p>

Cette premi\u00e8re visite du XVIe<\/sup> Gyalwa Karmapa en Europe<\/strong> a \u00e9t\u00e9 organis\u00e9e par Samy\u00e9 Ling, Kalou Rinpoch\u00e9 et lama Ole Nydahl.<\/p>
