It can also signify <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">seal<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in its meaning of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">wish<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">authorization of realization<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014and in this sense, it is the great seal, or great authorization that allows us to achieve realization. In fact,<strong> the literal meaning of Mahamudra is <\/strong><\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">supreme authorization<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in the sense that, \u201cthere is nothing more excellent that can be transmitted by all the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tathagatas.\u201d <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(From <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tendrel Magazine, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Issue 23, August, 1990).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moonbeams,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a <strong>treatise of over four hundred pages<\/strong> including countless quotations from the sutras, tantras, and oral instructions from the accomplished masters of India and Tibet, presents calm abiding meditation (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">samatha\/shin\u00e9<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and higher vision (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">vipasyana\/lhaktong<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) in a <strong>first part<\/strong> and the theoretical foundations and practice of Mahamudra in the Kagy\u00fcpa tradition in a <strong>second part.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cExpressing myself in a simple and understandable way, I will first give the reasons why it is essential to meditate on the true nature of mind. Then I will lay out the gradual steps of this meditation,\u201d <strong>writes this Kagyu master<\/strong> who was a contemporary of the 8th and 9th Karmapas and the primary abbot of Dakla Gampo Monastery, founded by Gampopa.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Based on this treatise, Kunzig Shamarpa gives <strong>explanations<\/strong> on numerous <strong>aspects of the meditation and obstacles<\/strong> that one can encounter in it, notably emphasizing shin\u00e9 practice, without which, \u201cit is indeed impossible to accomplish any other practice. Based on shin\u00e9, the capacity for awareness\u2014the perception of reality as it is\u2014will be able to develop.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_testimonial _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Renounce all physical activity and let your body naturally relax.<br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do not talk too much, [for words] are like echoes.<br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ignore thought and look at natural consciousness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">Tilopa, as quoted in <em>Moonbeams<\/em><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_testimonial][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; custom_margin=&#8221;-90px||||false|false&#8221; custom_padding=&#8221;80px||||false|false&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kunzig Shamarpa also reminds us of the <strong>two moments of practice<\/strong>, on the cushion and the rest of the time, between meditation sessions, \u201cwhich must be dedicated to <strong>purification and accumulation<\/strong> of positive activities. For this, it is enough to follow the commitments made during the bodhisattva vows, notably the practice of the six <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">paramitas<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each afternoon,<strong> Lama Jigme Rinpoche<\/strong> reviewed the teaching for numerous disciples coming from all over Europe.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shamar Rinpoche gave the <\/span><strong><i>lung<\/i><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the text, in other words the<strong> ritual reading<\/strong>, specifying that this carries \u201cblessing that allows not only to study the teaching, but also to realize it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Furthermore, Rinpoche <strong>gave precious advice<\/strong> on the importance of a \u201clama who is perfectly qualified in the realm of meditation\u201d to transmit Mahamudra instructions. <strong>This notably concerns<\/strong> \u201cplacing highest importance not on the person but on the authenticity of the teachings, of realizing and understanding the meaning of the teachings through experience.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During this stay, Rinpoche, <strong>who stayed at the center for the first time<\/strong>, conferred Dorje Sempa, Marpa, Karma Pakshi and Amitabha empowerments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rinpoche left practitioners with clear instructions, <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is important to avoid materialism and sensational spiritualism that attaches to experiences. Beware the danger of practice that aims to obtain experiences and turn toward practice with the goal of realizing enlightenment.
