The 2nd Gyalwa Karmapa, Karmapa Pakshi (1204\u20131283), indicated that he would manifest in the future in two physical forms that would be one in essence: the Black Crown Karmapa<\/strong> and the Red Crown Karmapa<\/strong>, otherwise known as the Shamarpa.  <\/span><\/p>\n

Our narrow perception can only touch the surface of what the Karmapas and Shamarpas truly are. Our field of experience is limited to terms whose full extent we can\u2019t really grasp\u2014holder of the Red Crown; holder of the Karma Kagy\u00fc lineage\u2014and to the physical presence in our world of these manifestations of enlightenment.<\/span><\/p>\n

From 1981, Mipham Ch\u00f6kyi Lodr\u00f6, His Holiness the 14th K\u00fcnzig Shamarpa<\/strong>, came at least once a year to Dhagpo Kagyu Ling<\/strong> and \u201ctook care to offer the nectar of the Buddha\u2019s words and methods so that practitioners could journey on the path towards liberation,\u201d writes Lama Jigme Rinpoche<\/strong> in his foreword to Shamarpa\u2019s recently published work, <\/span>Insight through Learning, Reflecting and Meditation: The Fourfold Application of Mindfulness.[1] <\/span><\/i><\/a><\/p>\n

This work presents a teaching that Shamarpa gave at Dhagpo Kagyu Ling in 2006, based on <\/span>The Dharma Discourse on Defining the Topics <\/span><\/i>(<\/span>Arthavini<\/span><\/i>\u015b<\/span><\/i>caya Dharmapary<\/span><\/i>\u0101<\/span><\/i>ya<\/span><\/i>), a text considered to be a discourse or sutra taught by Buddha Sakyamuni.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

In 2014<\/strong>, K\u00fcnzig Shamarpa once again gave a teaching at Dhagpo Kagyu Ling on the four applications of mindfulness,<\/strong> in the Institute that he had inaugurated<\/a> the previous year. It was to be his last teaching at the European center of the Karma Kagy\u00fc lineage.<\/span><\/p>\n

Less than three weeks after this May 24 and 25 teaching,<\/a> Kunzig Shamarpa entered parinirvana on June 11, 2014<\/strong>, at the Bodhi Path center in Renchen Ulm,<\/a> Germany. He was intent on transmitting authentic Buddhist teachings adapted to our times, so that practitioners could acquire an understanding of the nature of mind and accomplish their own wellbeing and that of others.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe subject of the fourfold application of mindfulness is an extremely important one, no matter what approach we follow in Buddhism,\u201d explained K\u00fcnzig Shamarpa at the beginning of the teaching.<\/span><\/p>\n

Over these two days, K\u00fcnzig Shamarpa stressed the need to cultivate a stable and calm abiding mind<\/strong>, by focusing with vigilance and awareness \u2013 namely by being aware of one\u2019s state of mind, seeing distraction and remembering the exact antidote to apply when it arises. <\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Our aim in meditation is to acquire peace of mind. If you have acquired a peaceful mind, this peace no longer depends on any outer condition. [\u2026] If you don\u2019t have this stability, no matter how much you meditate on these four applications, these meditations won\u2019t be effective. It is absolutely necessary that you first succeed in acquiring a stable mind.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Through observation, analysis and contemplation, K\u00fcnzig Shamarpa explains that we can reach understanding that the body, sensations, phenomena and mind have no ultimate substance, no intrinsic existence, and gain an accurate understanding<\/strong> of their true reality. \u201cThere is inherent suffering, because we are associated with this body. The mind is like imprisoned in the body because of our appropriation of the body. Our constant grasping leaves no room for freedom. This constant and subtle suffering is like the paving of a road,\u201d explains Shamarpa. We must observe the continuum of mind and the present moment of consciousness. <\/span><\/p>\n

Try to see the mind as it is, in its fundamental nature, dissociated from all the concepts that it grasps and perceives. You will see that there is nothing to grasp and come to recognize the mind as it is.\u201d To this end, Shamarpa once again returned to the importance of shine meditation to acquire a stable mind and greater discernment. \u201cYou must meditate like a horse grazes grass. As soon as you have the time, do it and you will succeed.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This last teaching took place in the presence of the Buddha\u2019s relics, usually kept at the <\/span>Grande Pagode du Bois de Vincennes<\/span><\/i> (on the outskirts of Paris) and that arrived at Dhagpo  Kagyu Ling in November 2013. At the end of the teaching, Kunzig Shamarpa rose, started to push his chair to one side to sit on the floor, on a cushion in meditation posture, facing the Buddha\u2019s relics. From here, he gave refuge and blessed all practitioners present, while reciting <\/span>The King of Aspiration Prayers of Samantabhadra<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 14th Kunzig Shamarpa was born on the day when Buddha Sakyamuni set the wheel of Dharma  in motion; he left this incarnation the day that we celebrate the birth, awakening and parinirvana of the Buddha.<\/span><\/p>\n

During a private meeting, Thaye Dorje, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa said:<\/span><\/p>\n

I don\u2019t think anyone really recognizes the undifferentiated aspect of the late Rinpoche and the 16th Karmapa.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Notre champ d\u2019exp\u00e9rience se r\u00e9duit \u00e0 des termes dont nous ne saisissons pas toute la port\u00e9e \u2013 d\u00e9tenteur de la coiffe rouge, d\u00e9tenteur de la lign\u00e9e karma kagy\u00fc \u2013 et \u00e0 la pr\u00e9sence physique en notre monde de ces manifestations de l\u2019\u00e9veil.<\/span><\/p>

\u00c0 partir de 1981, Mipham Ch\u00f6kyi Lodr\u00f6, Sa Saintet\u00e9 le XIV<\/strong><\/span>\u1d49<\/strong> K\u00fcnzik Shamarpa<\/strong>, s\u2019est rendu au moins une fois par an \u00e0 Dhagpo Kagyu Ling<\/strong> en \u00ab prenant soin d\u2019offrir le nectar des paroles du Bouddha ainsi que des m\u00e9thodes afin que les pratiquants puissent cheminer sur le chemin vers la lib\u00e9ration \u00bb, \u00e9crit Jigm\u00e9 Rinpoch\u00e9<\/strong> dans la pr\u00e9face de l\u2019ouvrage de Shamarpa r\u00e9cemment publi\u00e9, <\/span>Le Quadruple Placement de l\u2019attention<\/span><\/i> : <\/span><\/a>le discernement par l\u2019apprentissage, la r\u00e9flexion et la m\u00e9ditation<\/a>.<\/span><\/i>[1]<\/p>

Cet ouvrage pr\u00e9sente un enseignement donn\u00e9 \u00e0 Dhagpo Kagyu Ling en 2006, enseignement bas\u00e9 sur le <\/span>Discours du Dharma \u00e0 propos de la d\u00e9finition des sujets<\/span><\/i> (<\/span>Arthavini<\/span><\/i>\u015b<\/span><\/i>caya Dharmapary<\/span><\/i>\u0101<\/span><\/i>ya<\/span><\/i>), un texte consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme \u00e9tant un discours ou soutra enseign\u00e9 par le Bouddha <\/strong><\/span>Shakyamuni<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>

En 2014<\/strong>, K\u00fcnzik Shamarpa conf\u00e8re de nouveau un enseignement \u00e0 Dhagpo Kagyu Ling sur les quatre placements de l\u2019attention<\/strong> dans l\u2019Institut qu\u2019il avait inaugur\u00e9 l\u2019ann\u00e9e pr\u00e9c\u00e9dente<\/a>. Ce sera son dernier enseignement au centre europ\u00e9en de la lign\u00e9e karma kagy\u00fc.<\/span><\/p>

Moins de trois semaines apr\u00e8s cet enseignement des 24 et 25 mai<\/a>, K\u00fcnzik Shamarpa entre en parinirvana, le 11 juin 2014<\/strong>, au centre Bodhi Path de Renchen Ulm<\/a> en Allemagne. Il avait \u00e0 c\u0153ur de transmettre des enseignements bouddhiques authentiques adapt\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque actuelle, afin que les pratiquants puissent acqu\u00e9rir la compr\u00e9hension de la nature de l\u2019esprit et accomplir leur propre bienfait et celui des autres.<\/span><\/p>

\u00ab Le sujet des quatre placements est un sujet extr\u00eamement important, quelle que soit l\u2019approche que nous adoptons dans le bouddhisme \u00bb, explique K\u00fcnzik Shamarpa au d\u00e9but de l\u2019enseignement.<\/span><\/p>

Au cours de ces deux jours, K\u00fcnzik Shamarpa insiste sur la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 de cultiver la stabilit\u00e9 et la qui\u00e9tude de l\u2019esprit<\/strong> en se concentrant avec vigilance et souvenance \u2013 c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire en \u00e9tant conscient de son \u00e9tat \u2013, la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 de voir la distraction et de se souvenir de l\u2019antidote pr\u00e9cis \u00e0 appliquer lorsque celle-ci s\u2019\u00e9l\u00e8ve. <\/span><\/p>

\u00ab Notre objectif dans la m\u00e9ditation est d\u2019acqu\u00e9rir la paix de l\u2019esprit. Si l\u2019on a acquis la paix de l\u2019esprit, cette paix ne d\u00e9pend plus d\u2019aucune condition ext\u00e9rieure. [\u2026] Si vous n\u2019avez pas cette stabilit\u00e9, vous aurez beau proc\u00e9der \u00e0 ces m\u00e9ditations sur les quatre placements, ces m\u00e9ditations ne seront pas efficaces. Il est absolument n\u00e9cessaire au pr\u00e9alable que vous ayez r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 acqu\u00e9rir la stabilit\u00e9 de l\u2019esprit. \u00bb<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>

Au moyen de l\u2019observation, de l\u2019analyse et de la contemplation, K\u00fcnzik Shamarpa explique que nous pouvons obtenir la compr\u00e9hension<\/strong> que le corps, les sensations, les ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes et l\u2019esprit n\u2019ont pas de substance ultime, d\u2019existence propre, et comprendre leur r\u00e9alit\u00e9 v\u00e9ritable avec justesse. <\/span><\/p>

\u00ab Il y a un mal-\u00eatre inh\u00e9rent, car nous sommes associ\u00e9s \u00e0 ce corps. L\u2019esprit est comme emprisonn\u00e9 dans le corps \u00e0 cause de l\u2019appropriation du corps. La saisie est constante et ne laisse pas place \u00e0 la libert\u00e9. Ce constant malaise subtil est comme le pavement d\u2019une route \u00bb, explique Shamarpa. Il nous faut observer le continuum de l\u2019esprit et l\u2019instant pr\u00e9sent de conscience. <\/span><\/p>

\u00ab Essayez de voir l\u2019esprit tel qu\u2019il est, dans sa nature fondamentale, dissoci\u00e9 de tous les concepts qu\u2019il saisit, qu\u2019il per\u00e7oit. On verra qu\u2019il n\u2019y a rien \u00e0 saisir, on arrivera \u00e0 le reconna\u00eetre tel qu\u2019il est. \u00bb\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>

\u00c0 cette fin, Shamarpa revient sur l\u2019importance de la m\u00e9ditation de <\/span>shin\u00e9 <\/span><\/i>pour acqu\u00e9rir une stabilit\u00e9 de l\u2019esprit et davantage de discernement. <\/span><\/p>

\u00ab Vous devez m\u00e9diter comme un cheval broute l\u2019herbe. D\u00e8s que vous avez le temps, faites-le et vous r\u00e9ussirez. \u00bb<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>

Ce dernier enseignement se tient en pr\u00e9sence des reliques du Bouddha, habituellement conserv\u00e9es \u00e0 la Grande Pagode du Bois de Vincennes et arriv\u00e9es \u00e0 Dhagpo Kagyu Ling en novembre 2013. \u00c0 la fin de l\u2019enseignement, K\u00fcnzik Shamarpa se l\u00e8ve, commence \u00e0 pousser sa chaise afin de s\u2019asseoir \u00e0 m\u00eame le sol sur un coussin, en position de m\u00e9ditation, face aux reliques du Bouddha, d\u2019o\u00f9 il donne une prise de refuge et une b\u00e9n\u00e9diction \u00e0 tous les pratiquants pr\u00e9sents, en r\u00e9citant la <\/span>Reine des pri\u00e8res d\u2019aspiration de Samantabhadra<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>

Le XIV<\/span>\u1d49<\/span> K\u00fcnzik Shamarpa est n\u00e9 le jour o\u00f9 est c\u00e9l\u00e9br\u00e9e la mise en mouvement de la roue du Dharma par le Bouddha Shakyamuni ; il a quitt\u00e9 cette incarnation le jour o\u00f9 sont c\u00e9l\u00e9br\u00e9s la naissance, l\u2019\u00e9veil et le paranirvana du Bouddha.<\/span><\/p>
