On June 6, 1981, Tai Situ Rinpoche, then twenty two years old, taught for the first time at Dhagpo Kagyu Ling, where he stayed for two weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n

This <\/span>high-ranking lama of the Karma Kagyu lineage<\/b> chose to teach in English about the first commitment of all practitioners, the gateway to the Buddhist path: taking refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha. <\/span><\/p>\n

This commitment, he explained, has <\/span>five aspects:<\/b><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. the object of refuge, also called protection;<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. the reason for taking refuge;<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. the duration of this commitment;<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. the manner of taking refuge;<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. examples. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    On this last point, he stated, <\/span><\/p>\n

    If we wish to cross the river of the cycle of existence and reach the shore of Buddhahood, we will need to use the boat that is the practice of the Dharma. To cross, we must follow the wise advice of the sailor that is the Sangha, for he knows the river and the boat well and will share his wisdom and skill with us.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

    Rinpoche then went on to explain that after taking refuge, we must continue to progress by accumulating everything that is positive and avoiding everything that is negative. <\/span><\/p>\n

    All our actions towards the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha are correct if they are authentically motivated by respect and devotion.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

    Tai Situpa Rinpoche, recognized by the 16th Karmapa as the 12th Situpa, the reincarnation of Pema Wangchok Gyalpo, <\/span>returned to Dhagpo Kagyu Ling in July 1986<\/b> to teach on “View, Meditation and Action of Mahamudra,” then in <\/span>December 1987<\/b>, when he gave the empowerment of Tseringma, protector of Milarepa and an aspect of long life.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Le 6 juin 1981, Ta\u00ef Sitou Rinpoch\u00e9, alors \u00e2g\u00e9 de 22 ans, arrive pour la premi\u00e8re fois \u00e0 Dhagpo Kagyu Ling o\u00f9 il vient enseigner. Il y s\u00e9journera pendant deux semaines.<\/p>

    Ce lama de haut rang<\/strong> de la lign\u00e9e karma kagy\u00fc<\/strong> choisit d\u2019enseigner en anglais sur le premier engagement de tout pratiquant, la porte d\u2019entr\u00e9e du chemin bouddhiste, \u00e0 savoir la prise de refuge en le Bouddha, le Dharma et le Sangha.<\/p>

    Cet engagement, explique-t-il, a cinq aspects <\/strong>:<\/p>

    1. l\u2019objet du refuge, appel\u00e9 \u00e9galement protection,<\/li>
    2. la raison pour laquelle on prend refuge,<\/li>
    3. la dur\u00e9e de cet engagement,<\/li>
    4. la mani\u00e8re de prendre refuge,<\/li>
    5. les exemples.<\/li><\/ol>

      Il illustre ce dernier point ainsi :<\/p>

      Si l\u2019on souhaite traverser la rivi\u00e8re du cycle des existences et atteindre la berge de la bouddh\u00e9it\u00e9, il nous faudra utiliser le bateau qu\u2019est la pratique du Dharma ; pour traverser, nous devrons suivre les conseils avis\u00e9s du marin qu\u2019est le Sangha, car il conna\u00eet bien la rivi\u00e8re et le bateau et il nous fera profiter de sa sagesse et de son habilet\u00e9.<\/p><\/blockquote>

      Puis Rinpoch\u00e9 explique qu\u2019apr\u00e8s avoir pris refuge, il nous faut continuer de progresser en accumulant tout ce qui est positif et en \u00e9vitant tout ce qui est n\u00e9gatif.<\/p>

      Toutes nos actions envers le Bouddha, le Dharma et le Sangha seront correctes si elles sont authentiquement motiv\u00e9es par le respect et la d\u00e9votion.<\/p><\/blockquote>

      Reconnu par le XVIe<\/sup> Karmapa comme le XIIe<\/sup> Situpa, r\u00e9incarnation de Pema Wangchok Gyalpo, Ta\u00ef Sitou Rinpoch\u00e9 reviendra \u00e0 Dhagpo Kagyu Ling<\/strong> en juillet 1986<\/strong> pour enseigner sur la vue, la m\u00e9ditation et l\u2019action du mahamoudra, puis en d\u00e9cembre 1987<\/strong>, o\u00f9 il donnera l\u2019initiation de Tseringma, protectrice de Milar\u00e9pa et aspect de longue vie.<\/p>
