\u201cLook for a house in the Puy-de-D\u00f4me.\u201d This was the minimalist instruction that Claude T., seeking to leave the French capital, gave to a Parisian notary. The latter came back to him with a property in Laussedat<\/strong> in the Combrailles region. Coincidence? Claude had studied with Arnaud Desjardins at his study and meditation center nearby, in Le Bost, where the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa had also conferred the Black Crown ceremony. At the end of 1983, Arnaud Desjardins sold his center on favorable terms to the Karma Kagyu tradition, which was gradually establishing itself in France. The first traditional three-year retreat began there on March 17, 1984.<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"Claude moved into this two-story stone house in Laussedat. It was early 1984. He was forty years old and had been on a spiritual quest for several years.<\/p>\n

\n

When I saw that the house was in Laussedat, near Le Bost, which I knew because of Arnaud Desjardins, I said to myself, Maybe there\u2019s something for me to do with him after all.\u2019That wasn’t the case, and Lama Gendun arrived!<\/em> he recalls.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Ten days after settling in Laussedat, Claude went to see Lama Gendun Rinpoche, whom he had met briefly three years earlier at Dhagpo Kagyu Ling.<\/p>\n

\n

I had kept the red blessing cord he had placed around my neck, but I had barely identified him because it was summer, he was tired, it was in a small room, and the shutters were closed. But later, when I went to see him in early 1984, this memory came back to me.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Three months after this meeting in Le Bost, Claude took refuge with Gendun Rinpoche.<\/p>\n

\n

Gendun Rinpoche visited Laussedat in September 1985, on September 29 precisely. On this day, I announced that I would donate it to him, <\/em>Claude recalls as if it were yesterday. What led him to do this? I have unshakeable devotion to Gendun Rinpoche. It was clear that he was the one, especially since I had been searching for six years. It was my heart that decided. After refusing the donation three times, Lama Gendun Rinpoche accepted it and decided to dedicate the place to women. In his great wisdom, he insisted that I be absolutely certain of my decision and that I take the time to think it over. <\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Claude lived there for three years until he began his first retreat in 1987. He officially signed the donation on April 3, 1990. In the meantime, while he was in retreat, an interim agreement allowed work to begin on the original house: a wing was added and a first retreat center was built at the rear. Practicing trainees stayed in the house. Guided by Thierry C., who coordinated the worksite, enthusiastic residents, inspired by Gendun Rinpoche and the prospect of completing a retreat, got involved in work on the retreat centers. As Kemtcho, who began her first three-year retreat in 1987, explains, Gendun Rinpoche did not start out with the ambition of building a large project to attract people. The women’s monastery, as well as the men’s monastery, were built in response to a request made<\/strong> to Gendun Rinpoche by female practitioners who wished to commit themselves fully to the path of Dharma.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was when we came out of retreat on November 9, 1990, that we discovered the construction site, whose progress surprised us: the buildings for the future women’s retreat centers were already \u2018out of water,\u2019\u201d recalls Claude, meaning that the concrete structure had been erected and the roof was in place. Then Claude, now called Dordje, began a second three-year retreat in 1991 at Le Bost. Kemtcho began her second retreat on the same date at Samten Ling in Laussedat, while the two groups of women entering their first retreat settled at Teudreul Ling for the French speakers and at Drendreul Ling for the English speakers. Upon leaving this retreat in May 1994, the nuns stayed at the monastery in Le Bost, as the one in Laussedat was not yet finished.<\/p>\n

Work continued apace. The stupa at Laussedat was consecrated in 1995.<\/strong> The women’s monastery<\/strong> was completed in 1996 and blessed by K\u00fcnzig Shamarpa<\/strong> in July of that year. In 1997, the temple at Laussedat was inaugurated. In 1998, two groups of women began their first and second three-year retreats at Laussedat. Then in 2000, during his first visit to Europe, the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Thaye Dorje visited Laussedat and blessed the site.<\/p>\n

For Claude T., the story of Laussedat, starting from the day he acquired the site because of a spiritual connection he had previously established in the region, reflects the spiritual strength of the masters of the lineage.<\/p>\n

\n

That’s what’s interesting on a spiritual level. It wasn’t a coincidence. I think this story can be perfectly explained by the blessings of Lama Gendun, the lineage, and the Karmapa. The story is significant of Lama Gendun’s spiritual realization. The blessings have been considerable.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cRecherche maison dans le Puy-de-D\u00f4me\u201d : telle est l\u2019indication sommaire que Claude T., souhaitant quitter la capitale, confie \u00e0 un notaire parisien. Ce dernier revient vers lui pour lui proposer une propri\u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e0 Laussedat<\/strong>, dans la r\u00e9gion des Combrailles. Co\u00efncidence ? : Claude y avait suivi des enseignements avec Arnaud Desjardins, dans son centre d\u2019\u00e9tudes et de m\u00e9ditation non loin de l\u00e0, au Bost, o\u00f9 le XVI\u1d49 Gyalwa Karmapa avait par ailleurs accompli la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie de la coiffe noire. Fin 1983, Arnaud Desjardins vend son centre \u00e0 des conditions avantageuses pour la tradition karma kagy\u00fc qui s\u2019\u00e9tablit progressivement en France. La premi\u00e8re retraite traditionnelle de trois ans commence le 17 mars 1984.<\/a><\/p>

\"\"Claude s\u2019installe dans cette maison de deux \u00e9tages en pierre apparente \u00e0 Laussedat. Nous sommes au d\u00e9but de l\u2019ann\u00e9e 1984. Il a quarante ans et est en recherche spirituelle depuis plusieurs ann\u00e9es. Il se souvient :<\/p>

Quand j\u2019ai vu que la maison \u00e9tait \u00e0 Laussedat, pr\u00e8s du Bost que je connaissais par Arnaud Desjardins, je me suis dit : finalement, j\u2019ai peut-\u00eatre quelque chose \u00e0 voir avec lui. \u00c7a n\u2019a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 le cas et lama Guendune est arriv\u00e9 !\u00a0<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>

Dix jours apr\u00e8s son installation \u00e0 Laussedat, Claude va voir lama Guendune Rinpoch\u00e9 qu\u2019il avait rencontr\u00e9 bri\u00e8vement trois ans auparavant \u00e0 Dhagpo Kagyu Ling. Il t\u00e9moigne :<\/p>

J\u2019avais gard\u00e9 le cordon de b\u00e9n\u00e9diction rouge qu\u2019il m\u2019avait mis autour du cou, mais j\u2019avais \u00e0 peine identifi\u00e9 Guendune Rinpoch\u00e9 parce que c\u2019\u00e9tait l\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9, qu\u2019il \u00e9tait fatigu\u00e9 et que c\u2019\u00e9tait dans une petite pi\u00e8ce dont les volets \u00e9taient clos. Mais apr\u00e8s, quand je suis all\u00e9 le voir d\u00e9but 84, j\u2019ai effectivement retrouv\u00e9 ce souvenir.\u00a0<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>

Trois mois apr\u00e8s cette rencontre au Bost, Claude prend refuge aupr\u00e8s de Guendune Rinpoch\u00e9.<\/p>

Guendune Rinpoch\u00e9 a visit\u00e9 Laussedat en septembre 1985, exactement le 29 septembre, date \u00e0 laquelle je lui annon\u00e7ai que je lui en ferai donation, <\/em>se souvient Claude avec pr\u00e9cision. Pourquoi cela ? Pour Guendune Rinpoch\u00e9, j\u2019ai une d\u00e9votion intouchable, in\u00e9branlable. C\u2019\u00e9tait clair que c\u2019\u00e9tait lui, d\u2019autant que je m\u2019\u00e9tais engag\u00e9 dans une recherche depuis six ans. C\u2019est le c\u0153ur qui a d\u00e9cid\u00e9.\u00a0 Apr\u00e8s avoir refus\u00e9 par trois fois cette donation, lama Guendune Rinpoch\u00e9 l\u2019accepte et d\u00e9cide d\u2019attribuer le lieu aux femmes. Dans sa grande sagesse, il a tenu \u00e0 ce que je sois absolument certain de ma d\u00e9cision et que je prenne le temps d\u2019y r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir, <\/em>commente Claude.<\/p><\/blockquote>

Il y vit trois ans, jusqu\u2019au d\u00e9but de sa premi\u00e8re retraite en 1987. Il signe officiellement la donation le 3 avril 1990. Entre-temps, pendant qu\u2019il est en retraite, un accord interm\u00e9diaire permet le d\u00e9marrage de travaux autour de la maison d\u2019origine : une aile est ajout\u00e9e et un premier centre de retraite est construit \u00e0 l\u2019arri\u00e8re. Des stagiaires pratiquants logent dans la maison. Guid\u00e9s par Thierry C. qui coordonne tout le chantier, des r\u00e9sidents enthousiastes, inspir\u00e9s par Guendune Rinpoch\u00e9 et la perspective d\u2019accomplir une retraite, s\u2019engagent dans les travaux des centres de retraite. Comme l\u2019explique Kemtcho, qui entre en premi\u00e8re retraite de trois ans en 1987, Guendune Rinpoch\u00e9 n\u2019a pas commenc\u00e9 avec l\u2019ambition d\u2019un grand projet de construction afin d\u2019attirer des personnes. Le monast\u00e8re des femmes et celui des hommes ont notamment \u00e9t\u00e9 construits en r\u00e9ponse \u00e0 la requ\u00eate faite<\/strong> \u00e0 Guendune Rinpoch\u00e9 par des pratiquantes souhaitant s\u2019engager pleinement dans la voie du Dharma.<\/p>

\u00ab C\u2019est \u00e0 notre sortie de retraite le 9 novembre 1990 que nous avons d\u00e9couvert le chantier dont l\u2019avanc\u00e9e nous a surpris : les b\u00e2timents des futurs centres de retraite des femmes \u00e9taient d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u2018hors d\u2019eau\u2019\u00bb, se souvient Claude, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire que la structure en b\u00e9ton \u00e9tait \u00e9rig\u00e9e et la toiture pos\u00e9e. Puis Claude, maintenant appel\u00e9 Dordj\u00e9, d\u00e9marre une deuxi\u00e8me retraite de trois ans en 1991 au Bost. Kemtcho entre en deuxi\u00e8me retraite \u00e0 la m\u00eame date \u00e0 Laussedat, \u00e0 Samten Ling, alors que les deux groupes de femmes entrant en premi\u00e8re retraite sont install\u00e9s \u00e0 Teudreul Ling pour les francophones et \u00e0 Drendreul Ling pour les anglophones. En sortant de cette retraite en mai 1994, les moniales s\u00e9journent au monast\u00e8re du Bost, celui de Laussedat n\u2019\u00e9tant pas encore achev\u00e9.<\/p>

Le rythme des travaux est soutenu. Le stoupa de Laussedat est consacr\u00e9 en 1995<\/strong>. Le monast\u00e8re<\/strong> des femmes sera achev\u00e9 en 1996 et b\u00e9ni par K\u00fcnzik Shamarpa<\/strong> en juillet de la m\u00eame ann\u00e9e. En 1997, le temple de Laussedat est inaugur\u00e9. En 1998, deux groupes de femmes commencent une premi\u00e8re et deuxi\u00e8me retraite de trois ans \u00e0 Laussedat. Puis en 2000, lors de sa premi\u00e8re visite en Europe, ce sera au tour du XVII\u1d49 Gyalwa Karmapa Thay\u00e9 Dorj\u00e9 de visiter Laussedat et de b\u00e9nir les lieux.<\/p>

Pour Claude T., l\u2019histoire de Laussedat, qui d\u00e9bute le jour o\u00f9 il a acquis le lieu en raison d\u2019une connexion spirituelle scell\u00e9e auparavant dans la r\u00e9gion, est le reflet de la force spirituelle des ma\u00eetres de la lign\u00e9e.<\/p>

C\u2019est \u00e7a qui est int\u00e9ressant au niveau spirituel, conclut-il. Ce n\u2019\u00e9tait pas le fruit du hasard. Je pense que cette histoire s\u2019explique tr\u00e8s bien par la b\u00e9n\u00e9diction que portaient lama Guendune, la lign\u00e9e et le Karmapa. L\u2019histoire est r\u00e9v\u00e9latrice de la r\u00e9alisation spirituelle de lama Guendune. Les b\u00e9n\u00e9dictions ont \u00e9t\u00e9 consid\u00e9rables.\u00a0<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>
