He was recognized by the 16<sup>th<\/sup> Karmapa and remained close to the Karmapa until he turned eighteen, when he moved to Ladakh to study and later accomplish a three-year retreat during which he practiced the six yogas of Naropa. He also received numerous other transmission, notably from Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. D<br \/>At twenty-five years old, he was enthroned as the vajra master (<em>dorje lopon<\/em>) of Rumtek Monastery in Sikkim, India. He is still the 16<sup>th<\/sup> Karmapa\u2019s dorje lopon today. He is currently responsible for Shamar Rinpoche\u2019s monks and is in charge of the Karma Kagy\u00fc lineage\u2019s activities in Sikkim.
