The Aspiration Prayer of Mahamudra
26 September 2015 - 29 September 2015
Event Navigation
The Aspiration Prayer of Mahamudra, composed by the 3rd Karmapa Rangjung Dorje (1284–1339 CE), presents, in the form of a wishing prayer, the path to enlightenment. The text, particularly concise and profound, is structured in twenty-five stanzas. It describes the basis, the path and the fruit. It discusses the vision—the theoretical aspect of the teaching, the means to apply this through meditation, and the activity which ensues. This text is one of the five great aspiration prayers of the Kagyü lineage.
Lama Olë Nydahl was one of the first Western disciples of the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa (1923–1981). After years of study and meditation, he received the directive from the Karmapa to spread Buddhism in the West. Since 1972, Lama Olë Nydahl has established more than 600 centers in the world, which he regularly visits. For the last twenty–five years, he has directed hundreds of Powa retreats in which more than 80,000 people have participated.
