Clarity and Compassion Study and Meditation Retreat

IMPORTANT CHANGE *

Dear Dharma Practitioners,

Following the parinirvana of His Eminence the 3rd Mipham Rinpoche, father of Thaye Dorje, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, Lama Jigme Rinpoche had to travel urgently to India.

Lama Jigme Rinpoche will therefore be unable to guide his Clarity and Compassion retreat from December 29 to 31. However, he wishes that the retreat be maintained with some adjustments to the program, notably to include the practice of Amitabha and the recitation of Guru Rinpoche’s Seven-Line Prayer with its mantra, as indicated by Karmapa himself. Lama Jigme Rinpoche also wishes that Khenpo Wangdu, director of the Shri Diwakar Buddhist Academy in Kalimpong, teach the chapter on Dependent Origination from Entry to the State of a Pandita by the 1st Mipham Rinpoche be maintained as a tribute to Mipham Rinpoche.

These sudden upheavals are a reminder of the truth of impermanence, which leaves its unpredictable mark on all conditioned phenomena. In this year end and given these circumstances, gathering to practice together at Dhagpo Kagyu Ling, the place where their Holinesses the 16th and 17th Gyalwa Karmapas and the 14th Künzig Shamarpa sealed the blessing of the Karma Kagyu lineage, is undoubtedly a beautiful way to close Dhagpo’s fiftieth anniversary year and to begin the new one.

With best wishes from Lama Jigme Rinpoche

The path offered by the Buddha consists in clarifying our minds so that we can be freer in our choices. Based on examination of our situation, we become aware of our inner wealth as well as what hinders it. By relying on the explanations we receive, we cultivate a quality of presence to ourselves and others. Based on a progressive process made up of teachings, guided meditations, and opportunities for exchange, Lama Jigme Rinpoche shows us how we can start with ourselves to cultivate the qualities that enrich our daily lives and support the path to liberation. Over the course of each course, Rinpoche focuses on a specific theme of Buddhism that leads to daily practice made up of clarity and compassion.

SPECIAL PROGRAM: DECEMBER 31, 2025

We are pleased to announce that Lama Jigme Rinpoche will give the Bodhisattva Commitment during his morning teaching in the Institute.
As the year ends, receiving this Commitment together brings the commemoration of Dhagpo Kagyu Ling’s fiftieth anniversary to a close in an auspicious way and constitutes a commitment for the years ahead.

How to prepare?
Lama Jigme Rinpoche encourages us to reflect on the meaning of this Commitment, in particular by referring to Shantideva’s Bodhicaryavatara and The Thirty-Seven Practices of a Bodhisattva.
Preparing to receive these commitments also involves accumulating merit by contributing flower, fruits and vegetarian food offerings that will adorn the altar the day of the ceremony. It will be possible to make an offering on-site during the retreat.
Please note that as with individual liberation disciplines or empowerments, the Bodhisattva Commitment ceremony will not be broadcast online.

Just as all the Buddhas of the past
Have brought forth the awakened mind,
And in the precepts of the Bodhisattvas
Step-by-step abode and trained,

Likewise, for the benefit of beings,
I will bring to birth the awakened mind,
And in those precepts, step-by-step,
I will abide and train myself.

Bodhicaryavatara – Chapter 3, verses 23–24
