From July 25 to 31, we had the joy to welcome Lama Jampa Thaye for his summer teachings at Dhagpo Kagyu Ling.

Over a weekend, he continued teaching on The Seven Points of Mind Training (lojong), working through the commentary by his master, Karma Thinley Rinpoche. He emphasized that this teaching—both simple and profound—speaks directly to our heart, allowing for transformation by developing our capacities for compassion and wisdom that are key facets of the Bodhisattva path.

In particular, he elaborated on the points regarding the transformation of adverse conditions into the path of awakening and how to implement the practice for a whole lifetime.

Then, over the course of five days, Lama Jampa Thaye continued his teaching on the Detailed Differentiation of the Three Disciplines (Dom Sum), a work by Sakya Pandita Künga Gyaltsen (1182–1251). In particular, he addressed the section on Vajrayana, which clarifies the many misunderstandings that existed in thirteenth-century Tibet—some of which are manifest today as the Dharma continues its journey of settling in the West. Sakya Pandita explains the importance of applying logic and reasoning in our approach to the Dharma by referring to the valid sources of the sutras and tantras.

Coming up: an exclusive interview that Lama Jampa Thaye granted us during his visit. Stay tuned!
